Dental Implants

Dental Implants Can Be Used to Simplify Certain Types of Orthodontic Treatment.

When teeth are missing, it can be difficult to find areas suitable to anchor the orthodontic appliances to achieve certain movements of the teeth. The placement of one or more dental implants into the areas missing teeth can create the needed anchorage so that the tooth movement is easily accomplished. In most cases the implants are positioned at sites that will require tooth replacement after the orthodontic treatment so that the implants can be utilized to support the needed restorations. The implant placement protocol is customized for the site, based on the initial presentation of the implant site and the time the implant is needed for the orthodontic tooth movement. The gums are usually conservatively opened, a hole of the correct diameter created through a specific drilling sequence and the implant placed. A healing period ranging from several weeks to several months is usually needed before the implant can be utilized for the orthodontic tooth movement.
